A samurai warrior finds himself a stranger in a strange land in the new indie thriller Lone Samurai. Today, Collider is thrilled to team with Well Go USA to bring you an exclusive sneak peek of the action in a preview clip, which sees Riku (Shogen) wash up on a seemingly deserted island. Lone Samurai will premiere in select theaters and on video-on-demand services on December 12, 2025.
In our exclusive sneak peek, the samurai Riku has survived a shipwreck...but to what end? He finds himself on a desolate beach, clinging to life with a nasty chunk of wood embedded in his thigh. In a gruesome sequence, he pulls it out, then makes a makeshift tourniquet out of his torn clothing. With one leg barely functional, he begins his trek across this strange land; however, he'll be hard-pressed to defend himself against whatever dangers may lurk there, because his sword was shattered in the shipwreck, leaving him with a jagged stump of a weapon. However, he may not be alone on this island...
What Is 'Lone Samurai' About?
Lone Samurai stars Shogen (Gensan Punch) as the title character, a hot-tempered warrior who washes ashore on a remote island after a shipwreck. Badly wounded and weaponless, he's tormented by solitude until he considers ending his own life. However, he eventually learns that his new island home isn't uninhabited, after all; it's teeming with bloodthirsty cannibals who want to consume him, body and soul. Confronted with their evil, he steels himself to stop them or die trying, even as he struggles against his own inner demons. The film also stars Sumire Ashina (Frontline), Fatih Unru (Lightning Catching Adventure), and Faisal Rachman, as well as Yayan Ruhian and Rama Ramadhan, two veterans of the bone-crunching Indonesian action thrillers The Raid and The Raid 2.
Lone Samurai was directed by Josh C. Waller, a producer on films like Mandy and Color Out of Space. Lone Samurai is his fourth feature as director, after the 2015 Zoë Bell action film Camino, McCanick (2013), and Raze (2013). Waller also wrote the film, which was filmed on location in Indonesia. It is the first production from The Raid star Iko Uwais' production company, Uwais Team; Uwais serves as an executive producer for the film. It is distributed in the US by Well Go Entertainment.
Lone Samurai will be released in select theaters and to rent or own on video on demand on December 12, 2025. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
